The YMCA is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people accessing our services. We support the rights of the child and will strive to deliver a child safe environment at all times. We also support the rights and well being of our staff, carers, and volunteers and encourage their participation in building and maintaining a secure environment for children.

All persons involved with the provision of YMCA Children's Services agree to maintain the following core principles as a minimum standard.

  • Abide by the Policies and guidelines of the YMCA and the particular service
  • Accept Duty of Care for the welfare, safety, health and happiness of the children in our care
  • Agree that any type of harm, defined as 'any detrimental effect of a significant nature on the child's physical, psychological or emotional well being' is unacceptable conduct irrespective of how the harm occurs
  • Treat all people with respect
  • Respect each child's right to privacy
  • Maintain the confidentiality of any information which is provided about children or their families
  • Promote and uphold the mission and values of YMCA of Brisbane in the care environment and in the community
